WHAT IS SH-K-BOOM RECORDS?
Founded in 2000 by Kurt Deutsch and Sherie
Rene Scott, Sh-K-Boom and its imprint Ghostlight Records
has become the leading independent force in musical
theatre recording—shining a light towards its future while continuing to honor
its past. The label is renowned for its efforts to encourage and support the
music of the most innovative new voices on Broadway, to help bridge the gap
between pop/rock and musicals, and to preserve the scores of important works. As a label created by and for the Broadway community, the company has reinvented the musical theatre recording landscape through their high-quality recordings, innovative marketing techniques to reach the next generation of Broadway music fans, and the creation of a new type of ‘United Artists’ environment for Broadway producers and artists to participate in the funding and co-ownership of their albums.

RECORDS: Bridging the Gap Between Pop Music and Theater
Rooted in early rock
releases from artists Sherie Rene Scott, Adam Pascal and Alice Ripley,
Sh-K-Boom Records was founded to give voice to a new breed of Broadway
performers, resulting from the evolving world of musical theater in the late
nineties like Rent. Kurt and Sherie
recognized that composers were coming from not only the musical theatre world,
but also from every genre of popular music, and that the full musical potential
of the actors performing these new musicals was being overlooked by major
record labels due to their niche audience. They also saw that the music
industry was being revolutionized, with the internet playing a larger role both
in connecting musicians directly with their audiences and in distributing
music, thereby giving artists greater freedom to create the music they want,
without having to work within the constraints of traditional record labels. Sh-K-Boom has, from the
start, been committed to working with individual artists, groups, and composers
to give them the guidance and freedom necessary to create the music they want
and have direct access and interaction with their fans through the web and live
performances. They began the popular
Sh-K-Boom Room… Fueled by revolution of the music industry and the evolution of
the musical performer, Sh-K-Boom Records is dedicated to bringing passionate,
fresh artists and their music to a whole new audience. Read Sh-K-Boom Records' Original Mission StatementGHOSTLIGHT RECORDS: An Independent Home for the Cast Album
